MACULAR DEGENERATION

Last year we had some good weather and this year has been even better, so you may have lost weight, because you have eaten more fresh fruit and vegetables and taken more walks instead of driving. You should be feeling a lot healthier and fit to face the winter months.

DON’T NEGLECT YOUR HEALTH, limbs need moving with exercise, your body is like a motor car, don’t let it stagnate, and always put the correct fuel in, you know what happens when you put petrol in the tank instead of diesel (the “green” fuel). It seems that “greens” are the best for humans too!! Your eyes benefit from eating green vegetables especially kale, which is full of antioxidant.
Don’t think that because you can go to the opticians for new “specs”, that is all that is needed, your eyes are your jewels! Look after them. Macular Degeneration affects half a million people in the U.K and develops very slowly, causing loss of vision, and it is very frustrating.

There are Macular Society meetings all over the U.K and Ashton meetings take place every other month, and is run by “Tameside Sight”. If you would like further details, then ring Elsie Swainson on 0161 336 7374 who is a volunteer speaker if needed.
